BFS 900 Beer Foam Separator Lowers Rejection Rates for Over and Underfilled Beer Bottles

June 28, 2024
Atlas Copco's BFS 900 Beer Foam Separator lowers rejection rates of over and underfilled beer bottles with its auto-draining tank that allows the foam to settle and then separates it from the liquid.

A new solution for beer bottling processes, the Beer Foam Separator (BFS 900)—built to be used with the industry 4.0 ready GHS VSD+ screw vacuum pump—is designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce lifecycle costs, and lower rejection rates of over and underfilled bottles.

Atlas Copco developed the beer foam separator in partnership with brewery customers in response to the excess foam production that hampered the beer-filling process. The high amount of foam generated at the end of the filling process would enter the vacuum line and disrupt the process leading to poor quality and reduced output.

The BFS 900 solves the foam issue with its 304 stainless steel with an auto-draining tank and logic control system. When the excess foam enters the vacuum system, it collapses in the separator by a calming section with a large diameter for foam settling. The rising liquid level is detected by sensors and an automatic separation process is initiated by an airlock consisting of electro-pneumatic actuators and a receiver tank to enable drain in continuous operation.

The separator is also clean-in-place (CIP) capable. A shower ball mechanism ensures it can reach all internal parts for hygienic compliance.

Features:

  • Requires zero water
  • Control valves automatically drain, vent, and isolate system components
  • Stainless-steel construction resists corrosion and contamination
  • Coupled with GHS VSD+ technology, it delivers more energy savings
  • The integrated cleaning cycle makes on-site cleaning easier
  • Level sensors measure beer collected in the drain tank and radar sensors measure foam level
