Software to Guide Forger’s Time-to-Market Strategy

Sept. 6, 2017
FOMAS Group selects Siemens’ Teamcenter PLM software to manage complex, high-volume data requirements, improve collaboration between departments, and reduce errors

FOMAS Group is adopting Siemens PLM Software’s Teamcenter® platform as its "product lifecycle management solution,” to manage the range of product design and manufacturing data requirements necessary to deliver high-tech, quality products to market on time. FOMAS is a global manufacturer of open-die forgings and seamless rolled rings, and the Teamcenter environment will provide the IT functions needed to coordinate and manage corporate intelligence and support multiple business processes.

For example, FOMAS will use the Teamcenter Active Workspace function to streamline and personalize the PLM user’s experience, to link individuals throughout the enterprise with the data they need to make decisions. Teamcenter will give FOMAS the capacity to manage increasingly high volumes of information generated throughout their product lifecycle processes, often across many sites and several different databases.

“The current market requires more complexity and more flexibility, combined with shorter lead times and cheaper solutions, and we are committed to delivering turnkey solutions and the best customer support with the most engineered and technological forging applications,” stated Davide Ornato, a FOMAS Group director. “We found in Teamcenter a fundamental support for this strategy.

FOMAS is headquartered in Osnago, Italy, and it has manufacturing operations there and in China, France, and India, as well as the U.S. Its FOMAS Inc. division in York, SC (previously Ajax Rolled Ring & Machine) produces seamless rolled rings from 8 to 120 in. diameter, for gearmaking, energy systems, construction equipment, and various industrial market applications.

“The PLM system will help us increase collaboration between different functional areas and plants by accelerating the execution of our procedures and projects,” Ornato continued. “By improving time management, as well as enhancing and securing the delivery of the data from engineering department to manufacturing to quality processes, we will be able to provide a better and faster response to our customers.”

According to Franco Megali, Siemens PLM Software’ vice president and managing director for Italy and MEA, “This is a further step for FOMAS Group towards the digital enterprise.”
