Russian Robot Goes Ballistic

April 18, 2017
A Russian robot slated for space travel has been spending time at the gun range. Is it Judgement Day already?

If you’ve been worried about nuclear war with North Korea, keep in mind that their latest show of force proved a farce, as their intercontinental ballistic missile exploded almost immediately, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

Meanwhile, Russia is weaponizing its anthropomorphic robot F.E.D.O.R., which of course stands for Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research.

Allegedly, the pistol training was merely a hand-eye, or rather vision system/end effector, exercise to test FEDOR’s dexterity. Video shows that FEDOR is also handy with a drill, welding torch, keys, and can even drive.

It’s certainly not a politically charged response to the U.S. obliterating a Syrian airbase or dropping the Mother of All Bombs on Afghanistan. Syria’s Assad regime is allied with Russia and the Soviets’ 1980s quagmire in Afghanistan is essentially that nation’s “Vietnam.”

But just in case this is a show of force, we’d like to remind Russia we have robots and love guns, too.
