A petition for a union vote at Boeing’s plant in North Charleston, South Carolina, has been filed by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
A “significant” number of workers have reportedly expressed interest in union representation. The plant has been a sore spot with the IAM in the past. The union says Boeing chose the location because South Carolina is a right-to-work state, and its construction was seen as a retaliatory move.
Boeing builds the 787-8s and 787-9s at the plant and will soon do the final assembly of the 787-10.
