QFi Copper-to-Fiber Module For Long-Distance Data Transmission With a Single CXP Camera
BitFlow has launched its first copper-to-fiber module that supports long-distance data transmission from a single-link CXP camera to a host PC. With link speeds up to 10 Gb/s and cable lengths of 0.5+ mi (1+ km), the BitFlow QFi module provides a cost-effective alternative to the usual methods of extending CXP transmission.
Compared to other interfaces like USB 3.0 or GigE, the CoaXPress interface can transmit high-speed data up to 330 ft (100 m)—without repeaters or signal boosters. Over 330 ft (100 m), system integrators have to convert a CXP camera's output to optical signals using a dedicated set of converter boxes linked to a fiber cable between the camera and the PC. At the PC endpoint, the fiber signal is converted back to copper and an additional coaxial cable is connected to a CXP frame grabber. Besides being more expensive, this method introduces possible failure points, is difficult to diagnose, and can increase signal latency.
A single BitFlow QFi bridges the gap between copper and fiber by directly connecting to the CXP camera using a standard coaxial cable. Depending on the CXP version, this cable can extend 130+ ft (40+ m), giving the integrator more options for where to mount the QFi.
The QFi outputs camera data via an SFP+ compatible fiber cable assembly and into a BitFlow Claxon quad-link CoaXPress over Fiber (CoF) frame grabber installed in the host PC. A maximum of 4 QFi modules can be connected to a Claxon frame grabber, offering support for multicamera system configurations or a single multilink camera to deliver speeds up to 40 Gb/s.
Engineered as a complete system, it supplies a maximum of 13 W to a connected CXP camera, eliminating the need for a separate power source. In addition, it supports an uplink channel for camera configuration and control, triggering, and firmware updates. It's also compatible with CXP-1 to CXP-12 cameras for use cases requiring link speeds from 1.25 to 12.5 Gb/s.
Applications:
- Industrial: Bridge inspection, pipeline monitoring, high voltage monitoring
- Long-Range Surveillance: Rocket launches, destructive testing, environmental monitoring
- Sporting events: Multi-angle replay analysis, goal-line technology, player tracking
