Stage V Engine

Nov. 17, 2018
FPT's stage V engines improve local air quality.

For an effortless transition to the Stage V models, FPT Industrial is using its second generation innovative, patented High Efficiency Selective Catalytic Reduction after-treatment system (HI-eSCR 2). This technology allows the engine to achieve uprated standards avoiding Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and maintaining fuel economy, power and torque density. The HI-eSCR 2 also maintains the compactness of the solution due to its integrated particle filter on the SCR.

Part of the NEF family, the N67 is a 6.7-liter, 6-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 354 hp. The improvements on the Stage V version also extend to the service intervals, which are up to 1,200 hours - double the time of the predecessor model. The cooling and after-treatment system is 10% smaller than the competitors´ average, considering engines with the same architecture and displacement.

The N67 Stage V offers a 13% higher performance compared to the previous Stage IV model, with power and torque density up to 15% more than the competitors' average, and up to 3% less fluid consumption versus the competition.

To deliver truly easy compliance with Stage V, FPT Industrial has developed ´PowerPack´, a smart installation solution that encloses all key after-treatment components into a single package, providing straightforward installation of the N67 on Industrial Power Units (IPU).

Required components for the installation, such as DOC, SCR-on-filter, AdBlue injection system, sensors and manifolds, are included in the solution and, therefore, avoid the need for a dedicated exhaust system design. The compact pack also offers FPT Industrial´s prevalidated architecture for fluid dynamics, manifold layout and sensor positioning.

For increased installation flexibility, the PowerPack can come engine mounted, as a ready-touse solution, or as a loose pack to allow OEMs to design their own layout. In both cases, all electrical signals and connections are managed by a single cable for fast and reliable linking to the engine and machine electronic management system. Moreover, the solutions have a wide variety of options that can be customized to fit a large range of applications.
