VIDAR Smart Speed Motor Reduces Size, Energy to Improve Industrial Operations

March 18, 2025
VIDAR's new VIDAR motor combines the motor and VFD into a single solution by using AC-to-AC power conversion, reducing size and energy while providing consistent flow rates.

VIDAR is a new type of motor launched by VIDAR, an ITT, Inc. company, that embeds variable-speed intelligence into the motor to improve operations in pumps, fans, and fluid process systems. By doing so, it removes the need for mechanical controls, such as throttled valves or dampers. Lowering energy usage and CO2 emissions by only using the exact amount of energy needed for a task, VIDAR reduces costs, increases equipment lifespan, and improves process controls.

Its patented AC-Link technology replaces the usual AC-to-DC-to-AC variable frequency drive (VFD) technology with a streamlined AC-to-AC approach. By removing the DC stage, bulky capacitors are eliminated, enabling the motor and VFD to be combined into a single device. This compact design allows VIDAR to easily fit into the size of a standard motor while eliminating special wiring, enclosures, or extra space.

Its precise motor speed control also ensures consistent flow rates, improves product quality, and adapts to changing workloads for flexibility and scalability.

Built for industrial facilities, it uses a high-efficiency synchronous reluctance magnet-assisted motor designed using IEEE-841 specifications, meets CSA Class 1 Division 2 for hazardous areas, and meets IEEE-519 power quality standards.

Features:

  • 15 to 75 hp at 460 V
