Casella USA, the North American subsidiary of worldwide measurement leader Casella CEL, today debuted its Microdust™ Pro airborne particulate monitor. This portable, hand-held monitor assesses concentrations of suspended matter in a sensitivity range of 1µgm-3 to 2500 mgm3, making it one of the most versatile monitors on the market. Plus, it is the first such instrument capable of graphically presenting variations in dust concentration on a real-time scrolling graph directly on the LCD screen, eliminating the need to analyze results on a PC. Suitable for industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, and workplace exposure investigations, the Microdust Pro monitors airborne microscopic particles, such as dust, dirt, soot, mold spores, smoke or liquid droplets, using near-forward light scattering technology.
A narrow scatter range of only 12° to 20° minimizes uncertainty caused by particle color, shape and refractive index, further enhancing its accuracy. Key to the success of the Microdust Pro is an internal logger capable of storing up to 15,700 data points over 32 separate runs. Intervals can be set from two seconds to every ten minutes, which is ideal for continuous unattended operation during air quality surveys. Users can select to record values of average, spot, or minimum and maximum concentrations over the logging period. Another key feature is the optical calibration filter that comes with every unit. This allows the user to bring the instrument back to its “as delivered” condition at any time out in the field and is traceable to national standards ensuring a chain of quality for all measurements. Data from the Microdust Pro is easily downloaded to a PC or printer using an RS-232 interface cable. The included WinDustPro™ Windows®-based software lets technicians create an instrument profile for specific repetitive uses, as well as to recover data sets, produce line graphs based on historical data, or develop tabular and report presentations of files.
Lightweight and ergonomically designed, the Microdust Pro is perfect for responding immediately to complaints or as an integral element of a comprehensive IAQ or IH program. Its backlit LCD graphics panel is exceptionally easy to read, so it can be used with confidence in poorly lit areas. Plus, it offers the option of being powered by either four “AA” alkaline batteries or by rechargeable NiCad batteries that permit typical operation of ten hours.
