Claxon Fiber CXPoF Frame Grabber

Sept. 30, 2022
The BitFlow Claxon Fiber extends CoaXPress's capabilities to help machine vision system integrators reach throughput targets.

The Claxon Fiber, a CoaXPress-Over-Fiber (CXPoF) frame grabber, is a PCIe Gen3 x8 CXPoF board configured with a single port for QSFP+ hot-swappable, parallel fiber-optical/copper transceiver modules; it extends CoaXPress’s capabilities to help machine vision system integrators reach throughput targets. Equipping the Claxon Fiber with a QSFP+ module provides the flexibility of running multi-mode fiber cable up to 492 ft (150 m) between cameras and the PC or running single-mode fiber cables a maximum of 24 mi. (40 km).

Versatile as it is powerful, the Claxon Fiber frame grabber can accommodate high-bandwidth applications ranging from multiple linescan cameras inspecting color print materials or semiconductor wafers to area scan cameras deployed in 3D video scientific analysis or OLED defect detection. Fiber's immunity to electromagnetic interference also makes the Claxon Fiber an ideal choice for manufacturing or medical facilities subject to high levels of EMC. Space-sensitive defense and aerospace imaging systems also benefit from fiber cable's extremely compact, lightweight design and longer transmission distances.

The Claxon Fiber frame grabber features an identical architecture as previous generation BitFlow Cyton CXP or Claxon CXP frame grabbers.

  • Half-Size x8 PCI Express Gen 3.0 frame grabber
  • CoaXPress 1.1/2.0 compliant
  • Supports one quad link camera, two dual link cameras, and four single link cameras
  • Supports CXP speeds from 1.25 to 12.50 Gb/S
  • Fiber connection always runs at 10 Gb/S (which is the equivalent of 12.5 Gb/S CXP)
  • No firmware change needed to go from multi-link cameras to multiple cameras
  • Supports all QFSP+ compatible fiber cable assemblies
  • Supports cables lengths well over a kilometer
  • Cameras are Plug and Play with automatic link speed and camera parameter detection
  • Cameras can be accurately synchronized or can be completely independent
  • Compatible with all PCIe x8/x16 slots Gen 1.0/2.0/3.0
  • Separate I/O for each camera
  • Highly deterministic, low latency uplink camera trigger
  • Windows “sees” a separate virtual frame grabber for each camera
  • StreamSync technology maximizes data through-put while minimizing image latency
