AtmosZero Opens New Factory in Colorado for Decarbonized Steam
AtmosZero, the company on a mission to electrify steam, has opened its first 100,000-square-foot manufacturing factory at the Forge Campus in Loveland, Colorado. This new factory is the first step to commercializing Boiler 2.0 and to support upwards of one GW of steam.
AtmosZero recently produced its first commercial-scale Boiler 2.0 product at the AtmosZero factory. The company states that the facility will manufacture up to 100 Boiler 2.0 units per year and will begin commercial shipments in 2026.
To support the ramp-up of its manufacturing capabilities, AtmosZero was allocated up to $24.3 million for the Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Credit (48C tax credit) by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Treasury Department.
"We are laser-focused on manufacturing a product that is modular, scalable, and can be deployed today—not in decades," said Addison Stark, CEO and co-founder of AtmosZero. "We are proudly based in Colorado and our new facility will be the first to manufacture domestic industrial steam heat pumps that will drive American energy dominance to meet global demand for electrified steam solutions."
In addition to growing U.S. industrial manufacturing, the AtmosZero factory will represent a major economic boon to the greater Northern Colorado area. At the end of January, AtmosZero was named Cleantech Group's Early-Stage Company of The Year.
Vertical Cold Storage Opens New Kansas City Facility
Vertical Cold Storage, a developer and operator of temperature-controlled distribution centers, has opened its Kansas City multimodal distribution site.
The 311,000+ sq. ft. facility is located at 14820 Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, MO, next to the CPKC intermodal terminal in South Kansas City, MO, and within 30 miles of the BNSF, Union Pacific, and Norfolk Southern terminals, enabling access to and from anywhere in North America.
Expected to employ 100+ full-time team members and serving food & beverage producers, the facility features 47,000 pallet positions, blast freezing technology, and multiple rooms convertible from 35 to -20°F. Innovative materials and systems were used in the construction of the building to reduce energy consumption.
"This state-of-the-art multimodal center has the latest technologies and equipment to support our customers' distribution needs. Our highly trained and experienced Kansas City team is proud to support the wide variety of needs those customers bring to us every day," said West Hutchison, President and CEO of Vertical Cold Storage.
TECfusions Purchases Massive Former Alcoa R&D Campus for New Data Center Project
TECfusions, a sustainable data center solution provider, has purchased 1,395 acres in Upper Burrell, PA, for a new data center project, known as TECfusions Keystone Connect. This purchase, which includes the former Alcoa R&D campus and surrounding real estate, will transform the shuttered office and industrial site into a state-of-the-art data center campus, with plans for 3 GW of capacity to be deployed over 6 years.
12 MW of capacity is immediately available to meet the growing demand for AI and high-performance computing. In addition, the company was recently awarded a $2 million grant through Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), a program to incentivize the design, acquisition, and construction of improvement projects such as TECfusions' adaptive reuse approach.
The Upper Burrell facility will feature on-site power generation using natural gas, enabling dual utility and microgrid capabilities. This approach ensures reliability, efficiency, and reduced dependency on increasingly costly utility power. TECfusions is also in discussions to export excess power to support the local grid. The facility's massive scale and fiber network will enable cutting-edge applications while supporting digital infrastructure growth throughout the region.
"TECfusions Keystone Connect demonstrates our unwavering commitment to investing in the communities where we operate," said Simon Tusha, Founder and CTO of TECfusions. "By revitalizing a historic site and creating thousands of high-quality jobs, we're paving the way for sustainable economic growth that benefits everyone in the region. By the time the site is complete, we expect it to be one of the largest data centers ever constructed."
ThermoFab Constructs New Mexicali Facility
ThermoFab, a manufacturer of thermoforming and injection molding heavy gauge plastic enclosures and single-use components, is set to open a facility in Mexicali, Mexico, in mid-2025. Supporting the growing demand for near-shore manufacturing solutions, the new facility will let ThermoFab meet customer needs with better efficiency and speed. An ISO 13485:2016 certification in Mexicali is expected to be completed by the 2nd Quarter of 2025.
Located in the heart of Mexico's medical device hub, the 50,000-square-foot facility will provide comprehensive plastic enclosure production capabilities under one roof and offer advanced services, including:
- Vacuum and pressure thermoforming
- Injection molding (up to 900 T)
- Reaction injection molding (RIM)
- CNC plastic machining for prototypes
- Finishing, paint, and pad printing
- Complete assembly lines
- In-house tool maintenance
ThermoFab's Massachusetts facility is also expanding its prototyping capabilities with the addition of two 3D printers to allow manufacturing of thermoformed tooling as well as to quickly develop products that are needed for customers. Thermofab plans to be able to 3D print up to 4 feet.
ThermoFab will be able to facilitate the transfer of mold tooling from China or other parts of the world to its Mexico facility through its tooling transfer program, ensuring a smooth transition that simplifies logistics and reduces production costs.
