Siemens Acquires Altair Engineering for $10B, Bolstering Simulation and AI Capabilities

Siemens has finalized its acquisition of Altair Engineering, a prominent provider of industrial simulation and analysis software, in a $10 billion deal. This move expands Siemens' portfolio, particularly in simulation, industrial AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and data science.

By integrating Altair's technology, Siemens aims to enhance its Xcelerator platform and strengthen its Digital Twin offerings. The goal is to make advanced simulation and AI-powered engineering tools more accessible to manufacturers and engineers of all sizes, enabling faster product development for complex designs. The acquisition adds Altair's expertise in mechanical and electromagnetic simulation to Siemens' existing capabilities.

Siemens emphasizes that this combination will help customers optimize HPC processes, use new AI tools, and leverage data analytics to drive innovation and digital transformation. This acquisition is part of Siemens' strategy to increase its digital revenue and expand its industrial software leadership. The company also noted this deal contributes to its over $100 billion investment in the United States over the past two decades.

Motion Industries Expands Canadian Hydraulics Capabilities with Stoney Creek Acquisition

Motion Industries, a leading MRO distributor and industrial solutions provider, has entered into an agreement to acquire the operating assets of Stoney Creek Hydraulics, a Canadian specialist in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder manufacturing and repair services. This acquisition, expected to close by the end of October 2025, aims to enhance Motion's service offerings within Canada.

Stoney Creek Hydraulics brings expertise in custom cylinder builds (from customer blueprints or in-house design) and comprehensive repair services, including inspection, machining, and testing.

According to Motion President James Howe, the addition of Stoney Creek's skilled team will significantly bolster Motion's hydraulic capabilities and complement its existing mechanical repair services in the Canadian market, aligning with the company's strategy to grow through targeted service acquisitions.

Prima Industrie Sells Additive Manufacturing Division to Sodick

In a strategic move to sharpen its focus on its core sheet metal working and laser cutting machinery business (under the Prima Power brand), Prima Industrie has agreed to sell its metal 3D printing division, Prima Additive, to Japanese precision machinery manufacturer Sodick Co., Ltd. The deal, expected to close by Q2 2025, builds on an existing alliance between Sodick and Prima Additive established earlier this year.

For Prima Industrie, this divestiture aligns with its strategy to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate international growth in integrated sheet metal solutions. For Sodick, acquiring the Turin-based Prima Additive—specializing in laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition technologies—will expand its metal additive manufacturing product portfolio and bolster its footprint in the European market. Both companies anticipate significant synergies from the consolidation, driving growth within the metal 3D printing sector.

Prima Industrie CEO Giovanni Negri confirmed the sale allows the company to concentrate resources on its primary sheet metal processing systems while enabling Prima Additive to reach its full potential under Sodick's ownership.

FUCHS Lubricants Acquires IRMCO Advanced Metalforming Lubricant Technologies

To expand its lubrication portfolio by offering sustainable lubrication solutions, FUCHS Lubricants acquired the U.S. lubricants company IRMCO Advanced Metalforming Lubricant Technologies on April 1, 2025. Founded in 1914 and based in Illinois, IRMCO manufactures oil-free metal-forming and tube-bending lubricants for demanding manufacturing processes.

These lubricants work across markets such as automotive stamping, tube bending, appliance manufacturing, construction, and HVAC supplies.
