August 29, 2007 — Firth Rixon Inc.'s Monroe Forgings division in Rochester, NY, recently placed an order with SMS Meer for a modernization program to be carried out on the plant's RAW 125(140)/100-1850/360 radial-axial ring rolling machine. The revamp will include a new hydraulic system, and a complete modernization of the process control system.
No timetable for the project was announced, nor was the value of the contract.
The Monroe operation supplies high-quality rings produced in Ni-based alloys, titanium, and alloy steels, mostly for aircraft construction markets. The ring-rolling machine was supplied in 1986.
Firth Rixon Monroe also operates a RICA 200-1000/460 E vertical ring-rolling machine supplied by SMS Meer’s Wagner Banning Ring Rolling subsidiary in 2002.
