Simulation software will be used to test, prove process technology
Simufact Engineering GmbH and SMS Meer GmbH have agreed to a partnership in development of metal forming process technologies. "We are excited about the new technology partnership with SMS Meer GmbH," stated Simufact Engineering managing director Michael Wohlmuth. "Both companies will benefit from this partnership, but the main advantage is on our customers’ side: they can now rely on an even more robust and realistic simulation of forming processes. Together with SMS Meer we are in the position to drive technology improvements and we will offer a closer industry relation, while extending our technological leadership in the market." SMS Meer is one of the world’s major designers and builders of forging presses, pipe and tube mills, extrusion presses, and other large forming equipment for steel and nonferrous metals. According to the two firms’ statement, SMS Meer will use the Simufact.forming software to simulate manufacturing processes as it pursues the initiative. Simufact.forming simulates bulk metal forming, including model creation, process optimization, and error/damage analysis. SMS Meer chose Simufact.forming after an extensive benchmark program involving pipes, profiles, and other products, which confirmed that the Simufact software family met the SMS requirements for optimizing forming processes. "Our goal was to centralize and unify the simulation activities in our organization," stated SMS Meer director of corporate communications, Christian Zins. "With Simufact we will be able to bundle our activities. The software environment itself as well as Simufact’s know-how as a company has helped to convince us, that we found the right partner. We are very much looking forward to our future collaboration with Simufact."
