SIG300 IO-Link Master Links Sensors to Automation With Onboard Logic Control

April 24, 2025
SICK’s SIG300 IO-Link Master features an integrated USB-C interface for direct and intuitive configuration.

The SIG300 IO-Link Master is a compact IO-Link communication module designed to streamline data exchange between field-level devices and higher-level control or IT systems. It features eight ports in an IP67-rated enclosure and can process up to 102 digital signals.

With built-in support for fieldbus systems including EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, the SIG300 allows for flexible integration into a variety of control environments without requiring complex adaptation. Configuration and parameterization of connected IO-Link devices are carried out directly through the SIG300’s integrated web interface, which includes an IODD interpreter, eliminating the need for additional software.

The SIG300 includes an integrated logic editor that enables local data filtering and processing. Logic functions such as counting, averaging, and limit value monitoring can be executed directly within the device, reducing the load on central automation systems and minimizing data volumes sent to cloud services. This supports responsive and cost-efficient automation, particularly for condition monitoring and process control applications.

The device also acts as an intelligent data broker between operational technology (OT) and IT systems, transmitting sensor and actuator data in real time using JSON-REST API or MQTT protocols. This facilitates real-time monitoring, remote maintenance, and seamless cloud integration.

Advanced diagnostic and monitoring features make the SIG300 suitable for quality control and predictive maintenance. It can detect production errors early by identifying deviations from sensor parameters, reducing waste and supporting consistent product quality. In automated assembly environments, it analyzes transmitted sensor data to ensure accurate object placement and reliable handling operations.

The SIG300 records and displays real-time changes in system conditions through multiple communication channels. A connected signal lamp can immediately alert operators to critical issues at the machine level, while the data is simultaneously forwarded to monitoring systems in IT environments. Bidirectional communication with connected devices also enables efficient remote maintenance and on-demand status checks.

The "Backup & Restore" function supports seamless replacement of sensors and actuators by automatically transferring stored configurations to new devices. It also allows users to clone SIG300 configurations across multiple units, accelerating commissioning and reducing setup time.
