IMTS 2024: Achieve Unmanned Production and Modify Your Way With the FLX 5-Axis Tool Grinder for Carbide Tool Manufacturing
Being unveiled for the first time at IMTS 2024 in booth #237013, the FLX is Star Cutter Company's newest generation 5-axis tool grinder for high-efficiency carbide tool manufacturing.
With a smaller size, it lets users modify features to exactly match their grinding needs. For unattended machining, FLX features a broad range of automation capabilities, producing large numbers of parts continuously.
Its ergonomic design is complemented with adjustable features that allow personalized setup to be tailored to the operator.
With a grind zone of up to 228 mm in length and 20 mm in diameter, the FLX handles a wide variety of tool sizes and is supported by up to 15 wheel-changing stations with wheels of up to 6-in. in diameter. NUM's Flexium Pro CNC control platform helps to streamline operations.
Modular automation makes field implementation easy while providing optimal part quantity and wheel changing. Using waterfall programming, FLX can produce up to 1,105 tools (3 to 7 mm diameters) before unloading.
Designed to work in both controlled and uncontrolled climate conditions, the machine features reduced warmup time, elimination of chiller systems, and 35 mm linear carriages for durable machine movement and longevity.
The FLX has a footprint of 72 x 55 in. (W x D) (94.5 in. D with the automation model), and a height of 73 in. Machines weigh 7,000 lb. (9,000 lb. with automation). Other options include a bolt-on tooling rail with T-slot construction, a runout minimizer, and a 2-wheel changer (for non-automated machines).
Features:
- Ergonomic design with adjustable features that allow personalized setup
- 15-wheel changing stations with wheels up to 6-in. diameter
- Automation and throughput for high production/unmanned operations
- Reach 1,105 tools before unloading
- Grind zone of up to 228 mm in length and 20 mm in diameter
