Guardian XT Mobile Robot

July 19, 2021
The Guardian XT mobile robot from Sarcos is a teleoperated system that provides a safer and more effective way to complete work in hazardous conditions.

The Guardian XT is a highly dexterous mobile robot that performs intricate and dangerous tasks that require human-like skill, all while keeping the operator at a safe distance. The robot is platform-agnostic and attaches to various mobile bases, including wheeled or tracked vehicles such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and bucket trucks to address maintenance and logistics needs.

Based on the upper body of the Guardian XO full-body exoskeleton, the Guardian XT robot provides unparalleled strength, dexterity, agility, precision, and versatility on a human scale.

The Guardian XT robot is intuitive to operate; users control the robot through the wearable, motion-capturing SenSuit garment. The SenSuit enables the operator to use their natural reflexes, instincts, and judgment to perform complex tasks in unstructured, often hazardous environments, all while keeping them out of harm’s way. The Guardian XT features 3-degrees of freedom end effectors that enable dexterous control of trade tools and materials, including hand-held power tools, welding and cutting equipment, inspection and test equipment, parts and components, and hazardous materials, amongst others.

Expected to be commercially available by the end of 2022, the Guardian XT robot will integrate Sarcos’ SenSuit wearable controller and a high definition, virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR)-based head-mounted display (HMD), delivering intuitive control of the robot and enabling the use of standard trade tools.
