Trailer unloading and loading has been off-limits to automation due to the complex and unstructured nature of the task and environment. Pallet loads in trailers rarely have a known layout and require intelligent systems that can understand and reason about factors such as pallet quality, load stability, and pallet placement and orientation.
2024 NED Innovation Award Winner
Fox Robotics' FoxBot autonomous forklift, the world's first Class 1 electric, stand-up autonomous forklift, is an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) that automates operator tasks and improves workplace safety, productivity, and employee satisfaction.
The flagship model features the ability to unload 60 double or 30 single-stacked 40 x 48 pallets per hour and detect and avoid obstacles due to its 360-degree monitoring with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensors, cameras, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and fully redundant safety braking.
It reduces labor costs by eliminating drivers and only needs one employee to supervise up to 6 FoxBot forklifts at once. All-electric, the forklift is powered by a rechargeable battery with 18 to 20 hours of life and connects to cellular and Wi-Fi networks for integration into logistics workflows.
In 2024, Fox Robotics updated the forklift expanding its capabilities and applications with:
- Integration with automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS)
- Trailer loading where the forklift picks up pallets from an AS/RS or a staging area and places the pallet in the desired location and orientation inside the trailer
- Additional sensors and a new fork attachment to support the new capabilities
