High Strength Alumina Composite

May 8, 2021

Refractory Sheet Type RS-99 is a medium density, fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material with greater than 99% pure Alumina. These sheets exhibit excellent hot strength and creep resistance and are useful to 1,650?C (3,002?F).

RS-99 resists the flow of Hydrogen or other hot gasses through its thickness and is ideal for high vacuum, reducing atmospheres, and other applications where silica cannot be tolerated, such as solid oxide fuel cells, setters for P/M and MIM applications, and temperature investment casting furnace components.

RS-99 is 100% inorganic and undergoes no outgassing upon heating. RS-99’s high Alumina content makes it highly resistant to many environments, including atmospheres associated with pure hydrogen and contact with molten non-ferrous metals. RS-99 is not brittle, possesses good impact resistance, and can be cut and machined with standard tooling for fast prototyping or small piece requirements.

Refractory Sheet Type RS-99 is available in three forms:

  1. Type RS-99M is a highly plastic moldable sheet ideally suited for forming custom geometries or for molding in place.
  2. Type RS-99W can be moistened with water and molded into any desired shape. After low-temperature bake out of 300?C (570?F), the sheets are unaffected by moisture.
  3. Type RS-99R is pre-fired and unaffected by moisture. They remain rigid even if saturated with water.
