Modern, Portable Measuring Arms

Sept. 19, 2018
Hexagon's portable arm range provides intuitively located infinite-rotation, low-friction grips for the highest accuracy.

Building upon the ROMER Absolute Arm, the Absolute Arm range has been designed to meet the needs of modern metrology without compromising on speed and accuracy.

A standout feature of the Absolute Arm is its modular wrist design. This allows both the RS5 Laser Scanner and the pistol grip to be completely removed, facilitating easy probing in tight spaces. When reattached for laser scanning applications, a variety of grip sizes are available to ensure a perfect fit for every user. The wrist also features a display screen that allows for measurement result oversight, profile switching, and calibration right at the point of measurement, reducing time spent switching attention between the arm and its control computer.

This arm range retains all the features that made the previous generation of ROMER systems so successful. These include the proprietary Absolute Encoders that eliminate referencing and warm-up times and diagnostic reporting, as well as low-friction rotating grips and a unique counterweight system that facilitate easy movement and measurement. Also, notably still present is the capacity to measure at full speed without a reduction in accuracy.

The models are available in a 6-axis version designed for dedicated probing applications. Within this category is the new Absolute Arm Compact, which assumes position of the previous ROMER Absolute Arm Compact as the most accurate portable measuring arm in the world, with accuracy now to within just 6 microns. The full Absolute Arm range is available across seven sizes, with measurement radiuses from 1.2 to 4.5 m, and three levels of accuracy, resulting in 36 unique arm configurations – an arm for every application.

6-Axis Arm Features:

  • Specialized for high-accuracy probing while also compatible with the entry-level HP-L-8.9 Laser Scanner, the Absolute Arm 6-Axis offers the multifunctionality that can lead to clear productivity improvements.
  • The renowned Absolute Encoders placed in every articulated joint of the Absolute Arm make it the only portable measuring arm on the market to eliminate encoder referencing and frustrating system warm-up times, boosting productivity while delivering high-end accuracy.
  • Built on a foundation of high-tech carbon-fiber tube construction, the Absolute Arm maintains strength and thermal stability under any environmental conditions, offering reliable accuracy whatever the environment.
  • Intuitively located infinite-rotation, low-friction grips have been designed to maximize accuracy by minimizing user fatigue and making every movement light and easy to handle – together with a sophisticated counterbalance system, the Absolute Arm is the most agile arm on the market.
  • Stow and lock in place the Absolute Arm between measurements with the HomeDock and SmartLock functions, ensuring that scanners and probes remain undamaged and factory-accurate.
  • In even the harshest industrial environments, communicating with the Absolute Arm in a way that keeps the measurement process running at full speed and efficiency has never been simpler, through our range of visual, acoustic and haptic feedback functions.
  • Even the largest Absolute Arm 6-Axis systems weigh only 9.5 kg, making setup and repositioning a quick and easy process, while the functionally designed and shock-resistant carry case keeps everything secure during transport.
  • The probing accuracy of the Absolute Arm 6-Axis is certified to ISO 10360-12 as standard.

RS5 Scanner Features:

  • With mid-range width at 115 mm, the laser scan line of the RS5 Laser Scanner makes digitizing large surfaces fast and simple.
  • Designed for lightness and usability, the 400-gram RS5 is a low-weight addition to the Absolute Arm that makes 3D digitization simple and easy to perform without additional user fatigue.
  • A key component of the configurable modular wrist of the Absolute Arm 7-Axis, the RS5 Laser Scanner works in harmony with a variety of grip options and touch measurement accessories to deliver unbeatable measurement flexibility.
  • Through the on-wrist display screen of the Absolute Arm 7-Axis, the RS5 allows for measurement feedback and setting adjustment at the point of measurement for a clear improvement to workflow productivity – scanner profiles can now be selected without having to touch the computer.
  • The full scanning system accuracy of the RS5 and Absolute Arm 7-Axis system is supplied certified to ISO 10360-8 Annex D.
