Elma Electronic, a leading designer and manufacturer of rotary components and electronic packaging products, offers a new series TypeE37 that is two encoders in one switch. The encoders are used in various industrial, communications, mil/aero, medical, and audio applications. The Type E37 features a dual concentric inner shaft and outer pole, allowing it to act as two encoders. This can save the space and cost of a second separate switch. The encoder comes with or without an integrated push button and has a rugged metal housing and shaft. The Type E37 series has optional IP68 front panel sealing and an operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. It comes with 16 or 32 detents in standard resolution. The Type E37 also has Elma’s renowned quality. The units have a rotational life of up to one million revolutions. The “click with a kick” indexing system provides tactile feedback that you can feel and hear as the switch is rotated. This allows the user to change channels or frequencies in precise intervals, without having to look at the switch indicator. The indexing has 0.5, 1.5, 2.0 or 2.5 Ncm switching torque, with is consistent over the life of the encoder. Other features include a threaded or non-threaded bushing, vertical or horizontal mounting, and various shaft dimension and shape possibilities. Various standard options and customization are available. • Inner shaft - 16 detents with 2.5 Ncm (+/- 30%) or no detents • Outer shaft 1: 32, 16 or no detents • Fastening torque of nut: 100 Ncm max. • Coding/output: 2 -bit quadrature • Resolution: 16 or 8 pulses per revolution (PPR) per channel • Phase shift (A leads B clockwise): 90° (+/- 70°) • Pulse width per channel: 180° (+/- 36°) • Operating speed: 6 0 RPM max. • Contact bouncing time: 2 ms max. • Contact resistance: 1 0 Ohms max. (over the entire rotational life) • Dielectric withstanding voltage to housing/shaft: 5 00 VDC during 60 seconds (MIL-STD-202G, method 301)
