Detecting piston positions in hydraulic cylinders and monitoring linear movements in machines, the DAX linear encoder family offers three designs with industry-appropriate measuring ranges. SICK's online configurator gives step-by-step assistance when selecting a DAX, allowing customization.
The contactless detection eliminates reference runs while offering comprehensive diagnostics for condition monitoring and integration into digital environments. DAX encoders monitor operating and limit temperatures, as well as the voltage supply for voltage peaks or drops. They perform continuous position checks, count piston strokes, add them to determine total displacements, and record operating hours.
Three housing variants are available:
- A design for integration into industrial hydraulic cylinders
- A flat type with block magnets for mounting in tight installations
- A version with a slide profile that guides the position magnet, ensuring precise and repeatable position measurement
The measuring range is between 2 and 98 in. (50 and 2,500 mm) and is individually configurable in 1-mm increments. For electrical installation, it offers a CANopen interface so that the measurement system can output position values with a resolution of up to 10 µm, as well as an analog output for either 0 to 10V DC or 4 to 20 mA. The linear encoders have an enclosure rating of IP65 and IP67 as well as a temperature range between -40 to 176°F (-40 and 85°C).
The encoder can be used for measuring positions in injection molding machines, presses, automotive machinery, printing & packaging machines, wind, hydro & solar plants, wood processing or medical technology.
