Nov. 26, 2008
A line of desiccant bags for use in cargoes of foodstuffs, to prevent cans from rusting, labels from peeling off packages, and other moisture damage, are available from Sphinx Adsorbents, Inc. of Springfield, Massachusetts.Sphinx Container Dri® II Bags are constructed of tear-resistant Tyvek® and feature a non-toxic CaCl2 desiccant which can absorb 280% of its own weight in moisture at 90% RH @77°.  Capable of keeping the dew point temperature inside shipping containers below the actual temperature, they prevent cans from rusting, labels from peeling off packages, and other moisture damage.Available with or without adhesive backings in 50- and 125 gm bags, Sphinx Container Dri® II Bags trap moisture by allowing water vapor to enter the interior of the bag where it becomes a thick gel which cannot escape.  The manufacturer recommends using 32 of the 125 gm bags for a standard 20-ft. shipping container.  They can be safely disposed of with regular waste.
