New Piezo Keypads Withstand Extreme Conditions

July 7, 2009

Santa Rosa, California, June 30, 2009 – Schurter’s new series of metal Piezo Keypads stand up to extreme indoor or outdoor environmental conditions. They are particularly suited for outdoor applications due to their ability to withstand considerable temperature fluctuation ranging from -25°C to +85°C, as well as meeting the highest seal protecion requirements of IP69K. They are impervious to dirt and liquids including dust, snow, sleet, ice or rain. The keypads mount from the front or rear of the housing. An accessory kit with mounting frame and sealing gaskets provide a seal protection rating of IP68.

The standard keypads are constructed with an aluminum front in 12 and 16 number arrangements. Point illumination may also be integrated into the individual key fields for visual feedback or user navigation. The operating panel can also be produced in several colors in either the aluminum or stainless steel versions. In addition, custom designed sizes, symbols and key configuration are also possible.

Piezo keypads prove to be highly reliable. By applying the piezo principle the keypads are free of mechanical parts, resulting in an extremely long lifetime of more than 20 million actuations. The operating panel itself is completely sealed, easy to clean and resistant to cleaning products. The metal surface has a high impact strength rating of IK05. These robust characteristics result in reduced wear and tear and the maintenance costs associated with replacements or retrofits.

The piezo keypads are ideal for use in applications such as access control systems, vending machines, ticketing kiosks, and ATM’s. The standard pack is six units and lead time is stock to six weeks for standard types. More information about the new piezo keypads can be found at http://www.schurterinc.com/new_switches.
