Because safety is our top priority, every Slice knife is a safety knife. We look at every aspect of safer cutting and start by reducing the greatest risk: the blade. Slice tools feature the only true safety blade on the market. Using 100 percent zirconium oxide, an advanced ceramic, we developed our patent-pending edge grind to create a finger-friendly® blade that’s safe enough to touch.
Traditional blades, be they metal or ceramic, are overly sharp out of the box. Many users associate this extremely sharp edge with safety and effectiveness; this is a mistake. Overly sharp blades are very dangerous, and standard sharpness levels are excessive. Here’s why.
Metal blade manufacturers oversharpen their blades because metal is a relatively soft material: the edge becomes dull quickly. Using an overly sharp design extends the life of a metal blade. This approach champions product longevity over your safety. Makers of traditional ceramic blades mimic this dangerously sharp design. But, again, a blade doesn’t need to be overly sharp to be effective. Slice blades prove that.
Our blades start at an effective, yet finger-friendly, sharpness level and they remain effective for a long time. Zirconium oxide, the advanced ceramic used by Slice, is extremely hard. That hardness, coupled with Slice’s proprietary design, results in a long-lasting blade. In fact, third-party tests show that Slice blades last up to 11 times longer than metal blades. This means fewer blade changes, which is another safety bonus. Handling a blade puts you at risk for lacerations; it should be done as infrequently as possible.
Slice’s commitment to safety goes beyond our innovative use of industrial ceramics. All Slice tools are ergonomically designed, which means they’re comfortable and easy to use. Ergonomics help reduce fatigue as well as overuse strains and injuries. Our focus on ergonomics has resulted in unique designs—Slice makes many tools you won’t see anywhere else. All our tools are suitable for industrial, office, and home environments.
Here we highlight tools that are popular with our industrial clients. Discover which Slice tools work for you.
Slice Utility KnivesThe Slice® 10491 Auto-Retractable Metal-Handle Utility Knife.
A utility knife, sometimes called an electrician's knife, carpet knife, pen knife, or multipurpose knife, is a general-purpose cutting tool. Utility knives are typically tough tools that can cut relatively thick materials.
Slice makes a variety of utility knives. Handle materials include metal and GFN (glass-filled nylon: a modern, durable composite). We design manual- and auto-retraction options for most handles.
The 10558 Smart-Retracting Utility Knife offers a third retraction option: the blade remains exposed only while the the slider is engaged and the blade is in contact with cutting material. That is, if there’s no cutting pressure on the blade, it will retract automatically, preventing lacerations if the user slips during a cut.
The Slice 10562 Folding Utility Knife.
For those who prefer a folding pocket knife design, we make the metal-handle 10562 Folding Utility Knife. This stylish tool features a finger loop at the hinge for a solid grip and a belt clip for portability and storage.
The Slice 10560 Auto-Retractable Industrial Knife.
If you need an extra-long blade, Slice makes manual- and auto-retractable industrial knives. They offer up to 3 inches of blade depth. These knives are excellent for soft, thick materials like foam and fiberglass insulation.
All Slice tools ship with a rounded-tip blade, which can cut most materials—these blades are so safe, they don’t require a sharps box for disposal. For tasks that require a puncture to initiate the cut, we also make optional pointed-tip blades.
Slice Box Cutters
Box cutting tools typically offer less blade exposure than a utility knife. They’re made to create long, straight cuts in thinner materials including:
- Cardboard
- Clamshell packaging
- Paper and cardstock
- Packing materials
All Slice box cutting tools discussed here are compatible with our 10404 (rounded-tip) and 10408 (pointed-tip) box cutter blades. We offer all handles in manual- and auto-retractable models.
The Slice 10400 Manual Box Cutter.
The original Slice box cutters feature a unique J-hook design that provides a firm grip and natural movement. The blade and the back end both sit flush against the box when the tool is in use, providing a stable base for cutting. The hook design makes this tool easy to hang off a pocket or wall hook.
The Slice 10514 Auto-Retractable Mini Cutter.
If you’re looking for smaller, more portable tools, check out the mini cutters. They fit easily in a lab coat, pants, or shirt pocket. With the same finger-friendly blade as Slice box cutters, the mini cutters can handle a wide variety of materials, from box board to hard clamshell plastic. The onboard magnet and lanyard hole provide multiple convenient storage options.
Slice pen cutters are shaped and handle like a pen, so they are maneuverable and feel natural to use. They fit easily in a pocket or work belt and are suitable for use in smaller spaces.
The 10585 Manual Carton Cutter
For those who prefer the slim, compact design of a traditional carton cutter, we’ve got you covered. The Slice 10585 Manual Carton Cutter is intended for cutting thinner materials like box board and packing tape along a seam edge. Slide the blade into the handle for safe storage.
Safety and Convenience
With all Slice tools, blade removal and replacement is tool free and easy. And all tools are designed to work for lefties and righties. Some tools require no adjustment to switch between left- and right-handed use. For other tools, simply flip the blade around.
Scissors
The Slice 10545 Large Scissors.
Slice offers three models of ceramic safety scissors: our 10544 Small Scissors, 10546 Pointed-Tip Scissors, and 10545 Large Scissors. Our small scissors are great for maneuvering in tight spaces, but strong enough to cut materials like Kevlar-reinforced fabric. The pointed-tip model works well when you need to puncture your material to initiate the cut.
The 10545 Large Scissors allow a four-finger, one-thumb grip. This allows a firm, powerful grip, which is useful when cutting tougher materials.
