Multiflex 4R Pulley Provides Multiple Deflextion of Pull Wires Over Long Distances

Aug. 2, 2024
The Multiflex 4R pulley emergency stop from steute provides a wire guide suited to conveyors that twist and turn in different directions.

Emergency pull-wire switches function as extended emergency-stop buttons, particularly along conveyor belts. Pulling the wire halts the relevant part of the machine. For straight conveyors, the wire can easily be tensioned within the approved deflection over distances of up to 2 x 100 m.

A manufacturer of airport luggage conveyors inquired about implementing a standards-compliant, easy-to-operate emergency-stop function for conveyors with bends or in extensive, non-linear hazardous areas.

The solution developed is the Multiflex 4R pulley. Its head, which guides the wire, can rotate to any position, suitable for conveyors that twist and turn. The pulley's mobile rollers minimize friction even with multiple deflections.

The system meets the EN 60947-5-5 standard requirements of a maximum 200 N deflection force and 400 mm maximum deflection. This allows comfortable actuation of the emergency-stop function with minimal wear, even for longer pull wires with multiple deflections.

The Multiflex 4R can be mounted using an M8 thread in its foot or fixed to profile systems with a slot nut.

This solution has applications in various industries using conveyor technology, including tunneling, where conveyors transport stripped material and may need to navigate bends.

Features:

  • Guides pull-wire up to 90-deg.
  • Low friction
  • Flexible installation
  • Rotating head (360-deg.) automatically adjusts the wire even when the wire is pulled
  • Movable rollers inside the opening of the pulley
  • Suitable for mounting pull-wire systems on inside and outside radiuses of conveyor systems
