The NTC-6000 LVDT Signal Conditioner pairs with nearly any AC-operated LVDT, RVDT or LVRT half bridge to deliver reliable position feedback in 4-20mA, 0-5V, 0-10V or RS-485 formats for process control systems requiring digital output.
DC-operated position sensors cannot perform reliably in industrial applications with harsh environments. Void of internal electronics, AC-operated sensors operate with higher accuracy and longevity in areas with high temperatures, vibration and shock. But they cannot provide digital output on their own. Configurable with LVDTs, RVDTs and VR half bridge position sensors, the NTC-6000 LVDT Signal Conditioner converts unconditioned position feedback from AC-operated sensors to digital output for use by PLCs, data acquisition systems, data loggers and more.
In operation, operators can connect the NTC-6000 up to 100 ft away from an AC-operated sensor that remotely operates in the extreme environments of an application. For example, the AC-LVDT could be installed on a packaging line with extreme vibrations and shock, verifying critical dimensions, roller or tension arm location, or product flatness while the signal conditioner can be mounted remotely in a benign location.
As the AC-operated LVDT Linear Position Sensor does not contain any internal electronics, it requires external excitation. The NTC-6000 LVDT Signal Conditioner provides that AC excitation while retrieving the sensor’s unconditioned position output for conversion into analog or digital output that is communicated to a control system. For multiple sensor requirements, units digitally communicate with up to 16 devices simultaneously and are connectable in a master/slave configuration.
NTC-6000 LVDT Signal Conditioner realizes the full benefit of using AC-LVDTs in a variety of applications including factory automation, material testing, turbine control systems, steam valve positioning, packaging equipment and gaging.
The signal conditioner features:
- Quick and easy setup with front panel push buttons and LED indicators
- Selectable excitation frequency, analog outputs, and bandwidth
- Automatic excitation synchronization for multiple unit systems reducing or eliminating cross-talk between sensors
- Self-diagnostics for LVDT failure, disconnect, or short circuit
- Digital communications via RS-485 2-wire multi-drop bus
- Hot swapability — setup can be saved and reloaded via RS-485 port
- Cybersecurity lockout and tamper detect
Flexible design gives users the option to receive one of several DC outputs including voltage ranges, 4-20 mA current, or RS-485 digital.
