Galil Motion Control, an industry pioneer in motion control technology, introduces its new, compact RIO-47100 (RIO) remote I/O controller, which connects to the Ethernet and provides an intelligent, cost-effective method for adding inputs and outputs to a variety of motion and non-motion applications. Priced at just $295 in single quantity and $195 in quantities of 100, each RIO unit is self-contained and provides numerous analog and digital I/O including 8 analog inputs, 8 analog outputs, 16 optically isolated inputs, 8 high-power isolated outputs up to 500mA each, and 8 low-power isolated outputs up to 25mA each. Multiple RIO units can be distributed on an Ethernet network allowing for I/O expansion. Additionally, the RIO contains a powerful RISC processor for handling I/O logic at high speeds. It also provides on-board memory and multitasking which frees the host computer and motion controller for handling other tasks. “Designers who demand built-in intelligence will appreciate the RIO,” says Lisa Wade, VP-Sales and Marketing. “We’ve packed plenty of intelligent features into a compact package, including logical and arithmetic operators, conditional statements, process control loops, pulse counters, variables and arrays.” Standard features also include easy programming using Galil’s simple two-letter command language, a web interface that permits viewing of status and changing of I/O states without installing additional software, and email capability that allows messages to be sent remotely. The RIO can receive power solely from Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) for low power applications, or from an external supply of 18V – 36V DC for driving high power devices such as relays.
