Nordson Corporation today introduced its new line of VersaDrum bulk melters, designed for precise, demanding hot melt adhesive application from 200-liter or 55-gallon drums. Customizable to accommodate a wide variety of adhesives and meet manufacturers’ specific production requirements, the new line of bulk melters are particularly well suited for reactive adhesives, such as moisture-cure polyurethanes. VersaDrum bulk melters leverage a powerful industrial PC, which provides full control of the adhesive system via a touch-screen interface, displaying messages, warnings, and indicators for each operator activity and machine status condition. Because they melt only the top surface of adhesive, VersaDrum bulk melters allow the remaining material in the drum to stay solid, reducing thermal stress and protecting bonding characteristics. Hydraulic passages are designed to eliminate dead spaces where undesired curing could result. VersaDrum bulk melters’ variable speed motors are available with a variety of precision gear pumps, including optional dual-stream and hardened versions. Single-side access simplifies day-to-day operation and minimizes downtime associated with drum changes. Easy-to use controls, status-at-a-glance indicators and a 7-day clock for automatic start-up and shutdown further simplify programming and operation. Standard features also include an adjustable drum clamp that allows for accurate positioning of metal or fiber drums and a pressure control valve for accurate, adjustable pressure. Optional automatic pressure control systems are also available. For applications that require continuous operation, Nordson’s automatic changeover system also allows users to link two bulk melters, eliminating the downtime associated with drum changes and providing manufacturers with greater flexibility and improved productivity. * Choose from smooth platens for moisture-cure, reactive hot melt adhesives or axially-finned platens for high melt rates. * Use variable speed motors and a variety of pump types and sizes to customize for specific manufacturing requirements. * Simplify programming with touch-screen interface that displays messages, warnings and indicators for every operator activity and machine status condition. * Ease daily operation and maintenance with pressure control valves and single-side access for controls and drum changes.
