IDEC Corporation of Japan completed the construction of an eco-friendly sales office building in spring of this year. The new building is lit entirely with LED light units; positively affecting greenhouse gas by reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
This unique building is a result of IDEC’s quest to fulfill its global responsibility as a socially conscientious company. In the midst of global warming, IDEC wanted to demonstrate its concern for protecting the environment in some concrete form. This eco-friendly building is one of the answers.
IDEC, a leading manufacturer of industrial automation and control devices for over sixty years, began developing high quality and reliable industrial LED display devices in 1981. IDEC used state-of-the-art technology to develop a Sunshine LED series in 2006, the brightest LED in the world. For the last 27 years these products have made it possible for various industries to save energy and reduce maintenance work. During this time, IDEC has sold 40 million LED devices, which translate into the reduction of 70,000 tons of CO², otherwise dispersed into the earth’s atmosphere.
The new building is equipped with 11,000 LED devices and 250,000 LED chips, all manufactured by IDEC, which light up the entire building interior, the parking lot and the garden. These LED light units are not only bright, but they improve the environment through a 41% reduction in CO² gases. They also reduce the amount of waste the building produces, as these LED light units have a lifespan 5-6 times longer than fluorescent lamps, as well as being Mercury-free. Of course, the cost of installing LED lighting fixtures is higher than with traditional fixtures. However, the investment is recouped over 15 years, while helping the environment in the process. IDEC continues to strive for innovation in technology and ecology.
