Sonics & Materials, Inc. is pleased to announce that its new 20 and 40 kHz hand held ultrasonic plastics welding systems can be set to weld in digital time and/or constant energy modes, as well as continuous duty mode, for maximum control and versatility.Digital time controls range from 0.1 – 9.9 seconds and digital energy controls range from 0 to 999,999 joules. Additional microprocessor- controlled features include autotune circuitry; frequency display; digital amplitude control; ultrasonic power load meter; and upper and lower weld limit settings.Designed specifically for welding, staking, inserting and spot welding applications, these convenient and inexpensive systems are rugged and reliable yet compact and portable. The new 20 kHz 500 hand held converter is supplied with a standard ½” (12.7 mm) diameter flat-faced welding tip that attaches to an integral titanium front driver. (Front driver has a ¼-28 threaded end to accept other standard or custom tips.) Special carbide coated wear resistant, flat, knurled and custom faced tips, as well as a tip assortment kit, are also available. The 40 kHz 500 watt hand held converter is supplied with an 8 mm threaded titanium front driver for horn attachment. Horns are sold separately and are custom designed to customer requirements. An optional pistol grip is designed for more ergonomic handling whereby the operator activates ultrasonics by pulling on the “trigger.” Also available is a stapler attachment with a special pivoting mechanism that is ideally suited for sealing low production rate clamshell packages. Other optional accessories include a manual press and a plug-in foot pedal for “ultrasonics on” triggering.Other standard features include overload protection circuitry; overload reset; DB9 PLC I/O connector; backlit LCD display; and quick-disconnect RF converter cable.
