Appleton is offering an energy-efficient alternative to traditional HID and high-intensity fluorescent lighting with its new Mercmaster® enclosed and gasketed LED luminaire, the company's first LED (light emitting diode) fixture. The new Mercmaster brings LED technology's many benefits to industrial, marine and heavy commercial customers. The Mercmaster LED features a compact, extremely low-profile that is ideal for installation in low clearance areas. Suggested applications include: hazardous and non-hazardous locations in oil refineries, pulp and paper mills, foundries, general manufacturing plants, and marinas. The fixture is rated by the NEC as Class I, Div. 2, and Class 1, Zone 2.SUPERIOR LIGHTINGUnlike HIDs that requires a reflector to control light direction, the LED precisely directs its light to where it is needed most without the use of external optics, resulting in efficiencies up to 80 percent. In comparative photometric testing, the Appleton LED scored significantly higher than two leading competitors at mounting heights from 10 to 20 feet.RUGGED PERFORMANCEThe NEMA 4X rated housing, guards and mounting hoods are copper-free cast aluminum protected by an epoxy powder coat, a combination that results in a unit that can withstand punishing weather, salt water, corrosive chemicals, and high ambient temperatures. All exposed hardware is stainless steel, and the fixture's construction is free of any hazardous materials, including mercury. Hinge and bolt construction assures 360º compression at all points on the ballast housing gasket for positive sealing. In addition, the fixture's aluminum heat sink dissipates heat more effectively than standard steel, while its threaded polycarbonate lens better safeguards the LED cluster than the glass lenses deployed in competitor's fixtures. Another performance benefit of LEDs is that they feature no filament that can be damaged by vibrations or sudden shocks, further reducing the need for maintenance. SIMPLE INSTALLATIONModular engineering presents users with a high level of design flexibility. Scores of component can be paired seamlessly together to assure unique requirements are meet. This versatility is matched by safety features such as the rounded edges found on the heat sink that prevent potential injuries, and an extra-high hinge that provides additional protection against accidental ballast housing disengagement during installation or maintenance. Access to the LEDs can be achieved by merely unthreading the polycarbonate globe. To service either the array or the driver, simply unplug one from the other. The Appleton Mercmaster LED standard imput voltage requirement is a range of 120V through 277V, 50/60 Hz.
